My aim through this portfolio of work is to give the viewer a nocturnal whistle stop tour of ten European Capitals. The images span ten years of digital photography. For me, freedom from film caused rapid degeneration into point and shoot. What stopped the rot was night photography. It put thought back into the click. Setting up the paraphernalia of tripods and shutter releases slowed me down and managing the challenge of too little to too much light made me think hard. Composition, exposure, metering, colour balance, managing ambient light and reflections all pose slightly different hurdles to those at day. Since the challenges of night illumination kept me from becoming a happy snapper, for my ARPS travel panel I have pulled together images from my nocturnal pursuits in ten countries across ten digital years. The images in my panel have been arranged from dusk into darkness. Darker the night, brighter the lights.
