Straight away after our wedding we whisked away to Nepal. I have always been enchanted by the Himalayas. There enormity and eternity makes one humble and makes us mortals question the triviality of our existence. Philosophy aside, the sheer beauty of the Himalayas made it a natural choice. Pokhran was our first destination, sailing on the lake, cycling the streets, getting to sunset point in pitch darkness are all entrenched in my memory. It was here that I saw some lovely Thankas, how ever they were extremely pricey and being sold in US$s. Converting them into Indian Rupees made them unaffordable. I had a longing desire for such a masterpiece and I had to wait almost ten years till the opportunity arose again not to mention acquiring the means (in my trip to Sikkim in 09) to buy a Thanka depicting Buddha’s life. From Pokhran we went to Kathmandu and visited the innumerable temple complexes as well as a road trip to Nagarkot. Unfortunately our honeymoon turned a bit sour at the end as riots and demonstrations had broken out in Kathmandu due to some remarks regarding Nepal by Hritik Roshan (A Bollywood actor). Although we had a good time the final memory was not so nice as we had to walk with our luggage to the airport worried about our safety as rioters were burning tyres on the road. Luckily we managed to get tickets and get out safely from Nepal.
