26th Dec 2011 – Cancun and flight back to London Gatwick
Every single day in Playa del Carmen, I had promised myself that I will get up to capture the sun rise, I will get up around 5 am but then the bed would be so inviting that I would give in to the temptation. This was the last day so I could not tell myself ‘I will do this tomorrow’, cause tomorrow morning the sun will not rise or atleast be visible through the clouds in sunny (not) England.
However I did not regrest it, it was a beautiful sunrise, quite stunning. Bought back memories of the sun set I had recently seen in Patong Beach in Phuket, Thailand.
After sunrise, I headed back to the hotel, had a nice breakfast and we decided to get as close to the car rental place in cancun, so that we did not in the end have a rush to get back. We also thought this would give us a chance to see cancun as well and see what all the fuss was about.
Driving in to Cancun, we saw some nice beaches, but most appeared to be privately ownded by the hotels in the hotel zone. To entertain the kids we went into an aquarium where we spent some time. After that did some more shopping and had anice lunch at a Mexican resturant and then off to the rental and from there got a lift to the airport.
Whatever mexican pesos I had, I handed over to Mon so that she could buy some spicy sauce and after that it was the long flight back. Fortuantely though this time around i was a decent plane with an appropriate AV system for a transatlantic flight. Being boxing day the plane was emptey and both kids got three seats to sleep. I did watch two movies, and caugt a little bit of a nap in between the movies. Arrived back on time, retreived our car from Copthorne hotel and then got back home safely before noon on the 27th Dec 2011.
This brings to an end our whirlwind tour of the Yucatan. Fascinating place and something I would reccomend to anyone anyday. We had lots of memories to cherish and I am sure if you are into history and culture (dont need to be an archaeology buff) the Mayan world will not disappoint. That is if it lasts after 2012 Laughing …fingers crossed.
